January 29, 2008 – 8:35 pm

Hot on the heels of American Gladiators triumphant return to modern television comes another refresh of a cult classic. The new Knight Rider will attempt to cash in on a once lucrative franchise and its iconic symbol, the talking car named KITT. How will this modern rendition fare against the classic episodes? Rational Thinking in an Irrational Market

January 24, 2008 – 3:32 pm

On January 23, 2008, the major US stock market indexes plummeted almost 3% in early trading. They stayed around that level for the majority of the day, until roughly an hour before closing, when the tide turned. It was like MC Hammer right after signing a new record deal; people were buying anything they could get their hands on. The S&P 500 index closed up 2.5%, meaning it managed over a five percent swing in about an hour. How can the average investor handle such massive swings? Continue Reading »

On Steroids In Sports

January 9, 2008 – 5:37 pm

Professional sports today are littered with scandals. In the past calendar year, there has been the Michael Vick dog fighting bust, Marion Jones’ admission of steroid use, Barry Bonds indictment by a Federal Grand Jury, Pacman Jones numerous run-ins with the law, and now; the Mitchell Report, a report complied by a former Senator about the uses of steroids in the MLB. And that’s just off the top of my head. The most rampant has to be the use of performance-enhancing drugs. What has driven this obsession for an unnatural aid? Continue Reading »

Get Yourself LinkedIn

December 12, 2007 – 9:55 pm

LinkedIn LogoLinkedIn is one of the fastest growing sites on the web, looking to prosper from the recent social networking boom. It proposes to provide a network of professionals by giving you an avenue to build your business contracts without ever really talking to anybody. Think of it as a cross between Facebook and Monster. Instead of what television shows, movies, and music you like, you provide your public profile with prolific performance descriptions and professional pursuits (man, that was a ton of p’s). It’s like a Barry Bonds resume; that is, a resume on steroids. But, how useful is this “social network for professionals”? Continue Reading »

American Gladiators Returns

December 11, 2007 – 11:13 am

If you haven’t yet heard, American Gladiators is returning with all-new episodes starting in January. Needless to say, I’m pretty pumped. Your hosts for the new episodes is the absolutely brilliant combination of Hulk Hogan and Lalia Ali. As a kid who grew up in the late ’80s and early ’90s, I’m thinking this American Gladiator revival is just about the best idea in the history of television. “Average Joe” contestants compete in contests of strength and fitness against massive bodybuilders? Sign me right up. I will be setting my DVR to record every episode. Continue Reading »

The Definitive Blonde Joke

December 7, 2007 – 10:58 am

I always thought blonde jokes were kinda stupid, until I read this one. It’s dead on. I’ve been laughing all morning. Read, enjoy, and pass it on.

The Patriot Effect

December 6, 2007 – 3:55 pm

Steelers LogoNot too long ago I wrote about the importance of the Patriots - Colts contest and how a game of that magnitude was good for the NFL. It was essentially Super Bowl XLII 1/2. Coming into Week 14, the Pats record is still unblemished and they face the last big hurdle in finishing the season undefeated: the Pittsburgh Steelers. Seeing as I’m a Steeluh fan, I had to give my thoughts on the match-up. Continue Reading »

Are You a Guitar Hero?

December 4, 2007 – 4:06 pm

So recently I joined in on the cultural phenomenon that is Guitar Hero. If you’ve never heard of it before, Guitar Hero is a video game in which you use a little plastic guitar to play songs on screen. It’s somewhat like a real guitar, but instead of actual notes, you have five colored buttons corresponding to falling colored circles and a “strum bar” that you timely hit when the note gets to the bottom of the screen. Quite fascinating, actually. I had played this game a couple times before, but never really fancied myself as part of their target audience. What makes this game so addicting? Continue Reading »

Satellite Versus Digital Cable

November 30, 2007 – 10:57 am

Television choices abound for the consumer in 2007. You can get your favorite programming from two sources: a traditional cable setup or a satellite dish. The two most popular choices for these methods, at least in my experiences, are Comcast Digital Cable and DirecTV, respectively. Which one is better? Continue Reading »
